Primary Care
What is primary care?
Primary care is a branch of medicine focused on diagnosing, treating, and preventing illness and injury. It also works to improve your health, well-being, and overall quality of life.
Your primary care physician acts as a home base for all of your medical needs. They can diagnose and treat common problems like strep throat and the flu, provide medically-guided weight loss supervision, and help you live a healthier life in general.
What are primary care services?
At CareLife Medical, patients can access an array of primary care services, including:
Wellness visits
A wellness visit presents an opportunity to check in on your overall health and well-being. It’s recommended you participate in a wellness visit at least once a year. During a wellness visit, Dr. Aziz conducts a physical exam and asks you questions about any symptoms or health problems you’re experiencing. If necessary, she can also update your immunizations and order lab work.
High blood pressure
High blood pressure is a serious health problem that’s easy to miss. It doesn’t present any obvious symptoms, so it’s called the “silent killer.” Regularly participating in blood pressure readings is one of the easiest ways to lower your risk of cardiovascular problems such as heart attack and stroke.
High cholesterol
Cholesterol is a fatty, wax-like substance found in your blood. Your body needs some cholesterol to create hormones and vitamin D. However, if you have too much cholesterol, it can build up in deposits. Over time, these deposits can limit blood flow, increasing your risk of a heart attack or stroke.
Muscle and joint pain
As you get older, it’s common to experience aches and pains, either as a result of arthritis, injury, or physical activity. Primary care can pinpoint the source of your discomfort and provide insights and/or treatments to ease pain and improve mobility.
Diagnostic imaging
Diagnostic imaging tools such as X-rays and ultrasound allow your doctor to view your bones, organs, and soft tissues without a time-consuming or invasive surgery. If a physical exam doesn’t provide adequate information about your symptoms, your doctor might recommend diagnostic imaging.
What if I need to see a specialist?
Primary care physicians like Dr. Aziz at CareLife Medical can diagnose and treat most diseases. However, if you have a more serious health problem such as cancer or fibromyalgia, you might require more specialized care. If necessary, the team can coordinate treatment with other experts in the area, ensuring you receive the treatment you need.
